Building a knowledge management body of work

A body of work is one of the most valuable things that you can do because it's a way to express and share ideas together in a cohesive way. One thing that you cannot do if you just never write or publish, but also impossible if you never write while thinking about the larger body of work that the current piece that you're creating is going to become a part of.

So for instance, I'm writing about knowledge management and my goal is to accumulate a lot of knowledge on the topic, just to share my expertise, share what I discover, share what I learn, share what I find interesting.

But whenever I write a new piece, I think about my body of work as a puzzle. And basically, each time I write a new piece, I think about how this new piece fits inside of the existing puzzle. And I try to connect the pieces together.

So the idea is that whenever a new piece is added to the puzzle, it connects to the rest. So it's part of the graph of knowledge that I have about the topic. In my case, it's a bit meta because I'm writing about knowledge management and thinking of it through the lens of knowledge management.

That's a bit particular, but I think that this idea of building a body of work and thinking of it as a puzzle that you are creating over time is valuable no matter what topic you are focusing on.
