The journey is as valuable as the goal

01:50

I like this idea that the journey is the reward. So when you get started doing something, aiming for some kind of goal, so your goal is to achieve some level of wealth, some level of recognition, some level of authority or whatever, and you get started and you just focus on the end goal. But actually the journey to get to that end goal, to that final stage as you think of it, actually the journey is the most valuable part of it all because while you are pursuing that goal you can actually learn so much along the way. You can grow, you can discover new things, you can just have fun along the way, and in that sense the journey itself is at least as valuable as the end goal.

So even if you never achieve the goal that you set out to achieve, you might still have won a ton just by trying to get there. And so it's interesting to think about the journey as being valuable and paying attention enough to it because sometimes we are so frustrated about not being able to achieve the goal or because achieving the goal takes so long that we fail to be grateful and we fail to enjoy all of the moments that pass between the moment we decide to tackle something and the moment we actually achieve or give up that something.
